Programs for Diplomatic Professionals
Advanced Japanese for Information Gathering and Negotiations

AJALT has developed a special Japanese language program at the behest of various embassies in Japan and, for years, has been teaching officials and diplomats stationed in Japan and people training to be diplomats. In order to be effective in their roles, these professionals need to achieve advanced Japanese language skills in their respective fields and be proficient enough to recognize what is being to grasp what is not explicitly stated in meetings and negotiations. Additionally, their daily work activity includes gathering the latest information about Japan from sources such as the media and their counterparts.
“Programs for Diplomatic Professionals” is designed to help students, from the introductory level or after basic language training in their home country, advance to a professional proficiency (levels B2 to C1) between the time they arrive in Japan and when they start their actual assignment. The program is based on one-on-one lessons for rapid improvements.
Program Features
● Advanced Information Gathering
Lessons for students at the A1 and A2 levels include kanji and vocabulary in AJALT’s Practical Kanji textbooks for gathering information in Japanese. At the B1 level and above, students learn topical Japanese from actual newspaper articles and other media contents.
● Task-based Learning
Students will learn by completing tasks that emulate their work, including interviews, presentations, discussions, and interpretation.
These lessons are designed to help students pick up the vocabulary, expressions, and syntax relevant to their fields.
