Introduction

Association for Japanese Language Teaching (AJALT) offers Japanese education programs for students from abroad in order to promote exchanges and mutual understandings among peoples of different languages and cultures and to disseminate information about Japan and the Japanese language. AJALT has developed Japanese language courses for the workplace to help students of the Japanese language use their skills at their workplace and broadly participate in the Japanese society.

Goals and Objectives

【Objectives】
AJALT’s courses are designed to teach students the language skills required for applying their skills at the workplace and building relationships with coworkers.

【Goals】
(1) Japanese Language Education for Diverse Students
AJALT develops a teaching methodology that works in actual teaching settings, supports individual student’s needs, and evolves over time. There is an ongoing conversation with each student to track his/her goals and with his/her employer and coworkers in order to develop an effective curriculum to help the student develop the language skills required at the workplace through high-quality coursework. A combination of assessment methods is used for meeting diverse learning objectives, and evaluation results are shared each time with the student. The courses enable student to evaluate their own work in order to encourage self-directed studies.

AJALT instructors go through ongoing trainings for continuous development of their teaching skills, as well as seminars on global geopolitics and Japanese government policies on immigration. The instructors have the teaching skills and a broad knowledge required for delivering the programs required to teach working adults.
