２月３日は節分です。
２月は１年で一番寒い月ですが、節分は、暦の上の季節が冬と春に分かれる日です。

節分には、豆まきをします。
「鬼は外、福は内」と言って、豆をまきます。
鬼を追い払って、春を迎えます。

自分の年と同じ数の豆を食べます。
そして、１年間の健康を願います。

２がつ３かは　せつぶんです。
２がつは　１ねんで　いちばん　さむい　つきですが、せつぶんは、こよみの　うえの　きせつが　ふゆと　はるに　わかれるひです。

せつぶんには、まめまきを　します。
「おには　そと、ふくは　うち」といって、まめを　まきます。
おにを　おいはらって、はるを　むかえます。

じぶんの　としと　おなじ　かずの　まめを　たべます。
そして、１ねんかんの　けんこうを　ねがいます。

February 3 is Setsubun (or 'seasonal dividing' day).
February happens to be the coldest month; however, according to the lunar calendar, on Setsubun, it is the last day of winter.

Mamemaki (or bean-tossing) is conducted on Setsubun.
People shout "Oni wa soto, Fuku wa uchi!" (or 'Evil spirits out, and in with good luck!") while throwing beans.
In order to bring in the new season spring, demons must be chased away.

People eat the same number of beans as their age.
They wish for continuing health throughout the year.
