May 5 is Kodomo no Hi, or Children's Day.
Koi-Nobori (or carp streamer) is raised outside the house, while Go-gatsu Ningyo (or warrior doll) and Kabuto (or warrior's helmet) are displayed inside.
Kodomo no Hi is also called "Tango no Sekku" (implicating 'Boy's Festival').
In olden times, people wished for health and well-being of boys specifically.
Currently, happiness for children, including girls, too, is being prayed for.
However, the Koi-Nobori and Go-gatsu Ningyo are displayed in households with boys only.
The occasion is being celebrated by eating Chimaki (or rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves) and Kashiwa-mochi (or bean paste-filled rice cakes wrapped in oak leaves).
People bathe in Shobu-yu (bath with iris leaves).
