More than 10,000 people have studied Japanese with AJALT since it was founded in 1977. An overwhelming majority of AJALT students is expatriates working in Japan and their family members. AJALT offers diverse programs to serve the needs of everyone in the family, including classes designed for children and teens. AJALT also offers programs to help newly arriving refugees adjust to life in Japan.
